    Common Paper Wasp (Polistes humilis) series.

    This Common Paper Wasp (Polistes humilis) was not too active at all & so I picked it up on the leaf from its place it ended up to somewhere with some light for these photos, but it didn't just sit still feeling sorry for itself though. It got busy cleaning itself. This may be a male wasp close to expiring, as I understand the males all die off over winter & only the female lives on (longer) to bring the next brood into the world. MarkB can probably fill in more details on these.

    All taken with Olympus E-M1 & 60mm macro lens in natural daylight & edited in Capture One (12).

    Here is a video clip I took too (with dog barking cut from start & finish making it shorter). The colour is recorded 'flat'.
