    Sony/Minolta

    Hi there,

I have been out of the loop for a long time.
I am looking to upgrade my old (ok, so very old) Sony A100.
I originally bought it because all my old Minolta lenses were compatible.
Is this still the case? I'm possibly looking at a6300 Digital E-Mount Camera with APS-C Sensor??
Would my Minolta lenses be compatible still?

    Many thanks!!

Only with an adapter. Sony LA-EA3 adapts A mount to E mount.

A6300 is a brilliant little camera by the way, but don't buy it from Australian Camera Market unless you can meet in person and pick up.

Thanks for the advice. Reasonably expensive adapter, but likely worth it for my lenses...

It retains most of the functions. Cheaper adapters work but you'll be back to manual focus.

Good to know... Which would kind of defeat the purpose for this particular camera!

Have you got any thoughts on the A7? I can get it for only $100 more...

Your lenses won't suit an A7 as it's Full Frame and the A100 is APS-C. The crop factor is significant and they would only give 10 Mp which is no gain from what you had. (Unless of course you have some Full Frame lenses which they may be).

My recommendation would be to go the A6300 and get 24 Mp. The Sony and Sigma lenses for this camera are MUCH, MUCH cheaper and a wider range available.

I've owned an A7, and A9 and currently have an A7R11 which I find great for it's 'cropability'. It has 42 Mp to play with and that allows me to use a 400 mm lens and crop to 50% similar to using 800 mm on tiny subjects and still have a 20 Mp image.

I did have a Sony A6000 which I should have kept instead of selling. Some of my better images were from that camera.

Sony LA-EA3... The EA4 is the one being sold generally now.
Is the EA3 just as good?

    Thanks again!

I don’t know the difference as I only have the former. You might be able to get reviews on line.

Yes, thanks. Apparently the former doesn't auto-focus using the video function...

Yes just checked myself. Auto focus function should be much better with EA4.
