New to the forum - First photo upload

    Hi,

I am new to the forum so I thought I would try to load a couple of Photos. They are the Maheno on Fraser Island and the Windorah Solar farm.

Thanks, Doing a trip through the red centre in August next year. Hoping to get some really good shots then. I am trying to save up so I have the Sigma 14mm F1.8 lens by then.

    Welcome aboard!

Nice shots. What gear were these shot with? I have Canon 16-35 f2.8 that yields great results and is a versatile lens particularly when used with a full frame body. I also use a Samyang 14mm f2.8 for Astro shots which offers serious bang for your $. It's fully manual
but cheap and super sharp wide open, it does suffer a few distortion issues but for the $ hard to beat for astro work.

    Cheers Nate

The Maheno shot was with a Canon 650D with a Sigma Art 18-35 F1.8 (lit by fishing boats out to sea). The 650D does suffer from excessive noise. For my bigger trip last year I hired a Canon 6D with a Sigma 20mm F1.4. I am hoping to have a Canon 6D mkii of mine own by next year and will hire the new Sigma 14mm F1.8 which get excellent reviews. Definitely considering the Samyang to buy for my self.

I am also doing a night photography course around Brisbane CBD next week with Michael Snedic. Hope to get some great shots and lots of tips and tricks.

I feel your pain on noise with the 650D. I started out with a 700D (great camera but at high ISO was very noisy) and Canon 10-18mm lens. It's a great lens for landscapes awesome bag for your buck, but a little slow for astro work. I made the best of it at the time. I have a 6D mark II now and love it! There a bargains to be had for them now too, so keep your eye out, even some really good used ones around. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Samyang 14mm f2.8 I love it, it's fast sharp and dirt cheap!

Is this lens only for crop bodies or full frame too?

It’s advertised as for both and I use it on both but on full frame you need to crop the image a bit to get sharp rectangular edges.

Thanks Closei. Can you post an example of a shot taken with it on a full frame un-cropped for us. It would be interesting to see.

    Cheers Nate
