Nothing wrong with a bit of experimentation, I'm sure we all do it at times.
You've got some pretty good gear there so you have every opportunity to get some good results.

The calf is a great subject, I'm not sure that the barbed wired helps the image though. I'm guessing the flies attracted you to the shot?

I like the sunset which would also work well in portrait format. That may have given you the option of including all of that wonderful tree.

The shaft-head is interesting. It balances quite well even though the lens distortion has put some weird angles on the structure. Is this the effect you were after?

Thank you for kind remarks. .

My idea here for this thread is to post photos that are taken within reaching distance of the vehicle. No more than 50 metres off the tarmac. In other words, the photos must be taken from within the vehicle or close by. An exact location must be attached. That way others can take a drive and see if they like.

I do have other RAWS of the Boab

So the little calf, well, he came with the fence whether I liked it or not.

If you look to the dead centre of the Shaft photo then the camera was 1 metre from the wood pylon. 84 sec exposure (the nite
was pitch black) 15mm lens. I don't like to correct fish eye abberation.

    I don't have much gear ... a Canon 5D box, a 15mm Canon Lens, standard Canon 24-105mm Lens, and a Tamron 70-300mm lens.

The most often used is the 15mm

Ok I understand, I quite like your result of the mine structure and I probably wouldn't have tried to straighten it either.

Just a point on the calf shot, often domesticated animals will be in pens, paddocks, with fences or feed troughs. Getting a photo of them without the distraction can often be just a few seconds more of patience, or a movement towards them which causes them to jump back a few steps then turn back towards you. Observing animals and birds and understanding their natural instincts can be a great help in getting that clean shot that makes a difference.

I love that kind of challenge and am chuffed when a plan works out!

Nothing wrong with a few experimental photos, something's going to eventually work, and guess who's going to be the winner?

And besides there're very good photos anyway.

Thank you for that. But all I'm really doing is driving along and stopping to take photos from the vehicle now and then. Posts 8 & 9 I have digitally altered, which I'm sure is obvious.

Anyone is welcome to post roadside shots here in the thread, no problem. From an iPhone or a 1D, doesn't matter. Just add the location.

The Ship that never saw the sea.

My guess is that this was meant to be a blue water yacht capable of crossing the Pacific ocean. The small extended floatation chambers on top of the cabin, ovoid cutouts in the bulkheads, rear transom posts and the stem bollard seem to indicate this. But it was never to reach the ocean.

    I haven't bothered with the shoot-info. But this was a 5D and 15mm lens

    Kilburnie to Goombungee Rd.

My camera is permanently set on manual. Generally I select aperture first, then ISO, then juggle focal length and shutter speed. I can do this fairly fast and could probably have challenged Hop-along-Cassidy to the draw ... heheee. I have no idea if that's the correct way, but that's just how I do it. I'm not a photographer.

This ole house once knew his children
This ole house once new his wife
This ole house was home and comfort
As they fought the storms of life

This ole house once rang with laughter
This ole house heard many shouts
Now he trembles in the darkness
    When the lightning walks about.

(Ain't a gonna need this house no longer
Ain't a gonna need this house no more)

Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
    Ain't got
    time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend no window panes
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
He's getting ready to meet his fate
