G'day All from Maianbar (Royal National Park / Port Hacking)

    Hey!

Thanks for having me on board I have made a return to hobby shooting after buying a used 5D Mk3 last year. Have a 15-30mm & a Sigma 85mm portrait lense. Trying not to be overwhelmed by the whole Lightroom / WB / Colour management thing; last camera was a Nikon FM2 w/ a 28-70mm shooting transparency so yeh, not used to post-processing. Or capturing / storing too many files haha!

Have a couple of Qs ready to fire off; hope to contribute in a like fashion in due course; at this stage it'll be awhile

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Oh am mostly into shooting landscape, night shooting (love that! Even w the DSLR waiting to see what you got is still magic) and wanting to step more into portraits and some documentary. Like probably many of you, hope to make a dollar with this passion in the end.

    Take care out there!!

welcome aboard ; I still have my FM2 --- modern day photographers will never know how simple photography used to be

On editing -- have a look into On1 Raw . Certainly not perfect but I feel it would be an easier program for digital virgins to understand/learn
The days of Adobe only are gone IMO ; however it is still the biggest and likely the best on the block atm .

    Hey Ian,

Yeh I won't give up my FM2 either! Such a pleasure to use!

Thx for the On1 Raw tip. I'm down the track aways w/ Adobe LR (had a subscription already) so will keep adding to what I've learnt to date. Thank goodness I'm not needing to learn to edit in Photoshop hahaha! It'd end with a hangover for sure

    Cheers

    Nothing wrong with film.
I still shoot with it (50/50 film, digital), mainly B&W, 35mm and 120.
With so many great cameras (and lenses) going for almost nothing, it's hard to resist the pull of some "new" hardware to play with. Even better when people give you their old "junk".

    Welcome and all the best!

    Hey Nigel,

Great points. Having said that the cost of film + processing got to me, esp. when shots were average or worse. But if I look at what my current kit's cost and add on the time cost of learning post-processing... Hmmm... it makes film look attractive again

Love your points of view - thanks mate for adding them to the 'mix'

I have a little ‘museum ‘ display of my old film gear and superseded digital in my sunroom. Some of the lenses I have adapters for and can use them with my current Sony A7r. Work pretty well actually. I’d love to be able to adapt the lens from my Nicolas 5 as it’s excellent quality 28 mm full frame. But haven’t looked into that yet.

    Very cool set up!

Ah yes mirrorless; that's the dream when I can afford it. DSLRs are so heavy and cumbersome. Especially after getting used to just having a mobile ph in one's pocket. The lightness alone is very attractive. Sounds like the image quality is there too.
