    Canon lens help

I currently have a canon 100 - 400 f 5.6 the first model.on a canon 600D. I want to update to a better lens I have hired and tried the canon 400 f 2.8 ii usm for a week birding I found it to be quite good I could handle free hand for a short time and walk around with it aswell. I also am looking at the canon 7D ii as a upgrade.

A friend told me the canon 300 mm f 2.8 with a 2 x teleconverter is great for birding and he uses all the time always with the teleconverter on. My question is would that basically make that lens a 600 f 4.8 or doesnt it work that way ? He has a full frame camera.

So if you where looking at second hand between the 400mm f 2.8 ii or the 300mm f 2.8 what are the pro and cons or opinion's please.

    Re: Canon lens help

You better check if you loose auto focus when using a teleconverter.
Also consider some Sigma and Tamron lens. They are pretty good these days and you might get more bang for $$
