    Adobe Lens profile correction issue

    Hi all,

While editing my photos in Lightroom, I've observed that applying lens profiles in Adobe Lightroom sometimes seems to introduce more distortion.

    Example:

    Without the lens profile correction:
    DSC_7699-HDR-2.jpg

    With the lens profile correction:
    DSC_7699-HDR.jpg

is this a problem with the lens profile, or is it a shortfall of lens profiles in general, or is it just my eyes, and the "corrected" one actually does look better?

Is any lens profile correction applied in camera only applied to the JPEG version, or is the correction applied even before the RAW file is saved? (in which case, it is pointless applying the lens profile in lightroom, as it would then be "overdone"...)

Interesting. I actually prefer the lens profiling better John ... is it just me?

But then L/room has never been my strong point.

    Cheers,
    Les

My concern was with the objects around the edges. After applying the lens profile, the edge objects seem more stretched.

I've just had another look see John. And no I'm not bothered by the profiling at all ... is it just me?

Lets wait and see if others would like to comment on this.

I don't use lightroom but adobe camera raw does the same things basically. Whether the profiling is better or worse can be subjective but
it appears better in the corrected shot to my eyes, only there's more going on here. When the distortion correction kicks in the photo basically gets
a bit of cropping obviously to the edges but when the horizontals arn't horizontal and the verticals arn't vertical in the shot (particuarly with a wide lens) what you see around the edges seems to be accentuated.

I guess it's easier to spot in your eyes by doing a comparison. I don't see it as a problem.

I usually do my corrections manually in PS. Filters/distort/lens correction. I can tweak the composition at the same time.

I think it is just in the corners where I'm seeing objects stretched by the lens profile
