Re: >> show us your editing.

before images are in the first post, in case it wasn't clear in my ramblings.

I do hope that my posts show that dead flat images can be lifted without spending hours on the processing, and that it is basically necessary - they're not falling out of the camera like that.

And finally, my processing choices are my own. Others can disagree/would do something different. That's ok! There's no right answer to this stuff.

most of this has been done in PSE although the original file [3rd one] was manually blended from 3 bracketed files in on1 . PSE is just so much faster then on1 when moving/flipping layers back and forth until it all falls into place. But I do miss the live blending layer in ON1
    4th pics an original file
I was surprised here myself and I haven't finished yet
    comment/cc/questions welcome

Pay some respect to the original.. It could be made into a nice shot in it's own right without the abstract.

^^ should be here today lol; not really "new"; just a replacement

'bush sign post' was how I saw this so I added some confusion to actually which way is the wrong way. Bit like the "when ya get to the windmill ya gone too far .....

two photos of the stump were taken and blended in PSE to add a bit more DoF
background removed but still no idea what would happen in the end apart from a basic mirror image

flip and move until it happened -- used the magic of a blended layers (forget which one)

    before & after LR + ON1
overflow drain from one drainage lake to another
    1. raw otc
    2. lightroom edit and about as much as I would do normally
    3 finished in ON1
again, just a fiddle-around pic while re-learning the 12-40mm oly lens --- haven't used one for 12 months or more --- maybe 2 years
    honest cc & questions welcome

A bit too hot of the press -- I usually wait a few days to fine tune. Rather warm (38c) here yesterday with 30-50 kph winds and I was really hoping full more dust in the sky to give a better sky
blended from the last two file -- 2+5 second exposures
2nd is the blended file before edit
1st as it is now and a little different to as on my photo page.
Was fully edited in ON1 (without any dramas!!). quiet a bit of dodge burn -- couple of fine LR twinkles
    honest comments/cc/questions welcome
will be interested to how I see this picture in a few days

All comes down to personal taste of course, it's a little too warm and contrasty for my style, but certainly a striking image.

thanks Chris; we are are spot on imo

"will be interested to how I see this picture in a few days"

    or just a few hours

this could be good lesson about not rushing to post; or to get a file printed

And now I REALLY notice the little drama in the sky [b/w-top lhs]
b/w could be still too contrasty

everyone is welcome to show their edit of the blended file; or any of the files

I like it in B&W. If any, a little less contrast on the foreground, but the water and sky looks great. I like the direction you took this image.

I might try to upload my edit process of the Ducati tonight.

Re: >> show us your editing.

First one is ex-camera, made a few tonal adjustments (exposure, contrast, WB, clarity etc)

    The DGR (3 of 3).jpg

Next I took it into Photoshop, duplicate layer, added blur to the duplicate, layermask and painted the blur in. flattened image, took to camera raw, bumped up the warmth and hit with the adjustment brush.
    The DGR (2 of 3).jpg

Then I took it into Nik Analogue pro, added the grain and the warm flat mask, muted the blacks a bit, I was aiming for the dirty grainy vintage feel to fit with the theme of the weekend.

After all that, took back into lightroom, made some final adjustments to the colours and add the vignette.
    The DGR (1 of 3).jpg

All up, this one took me around a half hour, but I think it was time well spent.

certainly not how I would have done it; but the final results works well enough

yeah, usually I would have stopped at the second image, but as it was a themed ride, I tried to portray that in the images.

As for the people, I could have asked them to move, and in hindsight, I should have. My skills aren't good enough yet to remove them.

If you want to do a bit of simple basic practice try this: Select the bike with the 'magic wand' and (under edit) copy that part of the image. Just make sure you have all of the bike and none of the close by similar parts of the image. (the + and - along the tool bar will enable you to add and subtract the selection edges). Now that you've got the bike saved you can basically do anything you like with the background, clone it, blur it, black it out, texturize it etc. When you've got the background how you want it, paste the bike back in and place it exactly over where it was before. (It's handy to leave a little of the bike and foreground when you're playing with the background to help the alignment when you paste it back in). Then if you're happy with the look of it, go to the layers tab and flatten the image.

There are many more detailed ways of doing this type of adjustment, but this can work fine to isolate just one element in an image.
