Who has a shot we can have a play with?

Hey! Just learning image editing really - need lots and lots of practice.

Anyone interested in putting up a pic or two and letting me have a go and doing whatever to it?

Maybe others might like to have a go too, would be interesting to see the variety of what we come up with.

Any sort of image will do, as long as it's not perfect to begin with
I do need to practice on portraits.

Ooooh Simon, if I could get my copy of CS3 working, I would be in editing heaven

Re: Who has a shot we can have a play with?

Ok, now remember I am a beginner I use Adobe Lightroom because I am too stupid to figure out Photoshop

The first one is the original.

    In the colour, I:
    - Straightened the image a tiny, tiny, little bit.
    - I cloned out the people. I did a pretty dodgy job of it though! But it's all about practice isn't it
    - I brought the 'lights' and 'highlights' way up on the tone curve
    - Decreased the dark tones, well I slid the slider to the lft, which brought the darks out more.
    - Boosted the clarity all the way up.
    - Decreased the vibrance a smidge
    - Desaturated the orange in the image a bit, that was the main colour of the church.
    - Used the adjustment brush on the leaves around the top of the image to bring the green out more but it didn't really work

With the b&w, I grayscaled it then fiddled with the colour sliders till I liked it. Brought out the blacks, then I had to run the adjustment brush over the car to decrease the exposure as it was bright white.
Added a slight vignette, which didn't really do anything for the image.

    So who has another image?

In straightening it, you have made it crooked LOL

If you thought the building was crooked in the first place, it might have been due to perspective.

Re: Who has a shot we can have a play with?

Nice idea LA. Will be interesting to see what others come up with

    here is my version

My intention with this was to focus attention on the details of the arch in the centre.
So the major edits I did were.....cloning out the people, altering the perspective a little, cropping a little tighter, B&W conversion using channel mixer. I over sharpened the original image and add a duplicate layer which i blurred a little and then adjusted that layers opacity until happy.

I also added a vignette, did a bit of burning in on the car, some level adjusting on the whole image and selectively on the car and front door...I think that was all

    cheers

Re: Who has a shot we can have a play with?

I really loved the window, and the top of the building, but couldn't incorporate the 2 together into the one picture, so just went with the window.... A hard crop, but I like it.

This is a great exercise, and a great way to see how other people interpret images.... Maybe we can post a few more pics up for everyone to "hack"....

OK. Here's my donation. Straight from the camera, except for resizing.

Rather a different pace, of course. Purple skys, perhaps, B&W, high contrast, high saturation, pencil sketch, put a black cockie on the branch, get it looking normal, whatever.

My 2mins of play with Laurie's.

Levels for brightness adjustment - Curves for increased contrast - Photo filter (Cool filter) to remove the yellow/orange colour cast and bring up the blue sky.

Could have done a bit of sharpening too.

Here is one with heaps of dynamic range. You HDR lovers should have fun with this one. This a direct raw conversion. Nothing has been done in the converter or PP.
