At the risk of boring you all... here are my attempts at photographing fast moving objects - something I have an ongoing struggle with.

The Program setting on my camera seems to do a pretty good job though and I was quite surprised at how many sharp photos I managed to get.

The Roulettes

All photos taken with Pentax K200D with Sigma 70-300 kit lens.

Any hints and tips for improvement would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I believe Rob (Smith) was also at this airshow. You should check out his shots in the sports section.

Great captures, by the way. Especially like the last one.

I think you have done very well Nat, like the composition and they are sharp keeping in mind how fast these things are going!!!! Love the second pic and the climb.

Well done Nat, I think you have done very well with all of them - if its your first try! I like the first and third ones. If you can catch them at that speed you are doing fine. I had a go at a tutorial last night that Mike posted that had a virtual camera on a racing car and didn't have a hope of catching the whole car in the pic - so I'm impressed. Again well done.

Thanks everyone,

Yes it was pretty much my first visit to an airshow and first serious attempt at photographing planes apart from the occasional Qantas jet and the Roulettes at Riverfire earlier in the year.

Much more practice needed but at least it is fun and challenging. Some more pics...

The USAF STOL plane - don't know the exact name but it was impressive. I swear it trundled down the runway at about 50kph for about 100 metres and just floated into the air.

Thanks again Chris,

I might turn into a planespotter now LOL. They are seriously addictive I think.

"right click save picture as...":D

Very well done mate, very sharp and color looks great!

Very impressive for a kit lens.
These shots look better than the ones a guy at work took on his 400D with a $1500 telephoto lens.

Jeepers creepers Nat!

All expletives deleted.:D

And you weren't having me _on_ when you said you had trouble getting overflying planes from your backyard?

These are awesome. I tell you, a couple of those shots look like copy and paste fakes. You caught multiple planes in weird, almost impossible positions and it's amazing.

More expletives deleted.

Wow it's been a while since I've seen this thread he he.

Thanks for looking and commenting. I was very happy and surprised that the 70-300 sigma kit lens came through on the day as it usually doesn't take great photos at the big end at all (although most of the fault lies in the photographer I think). Previous to the airshow, the only planes I had taken photos of were commercial passenger jets flying over the house which never came out good at all.

Nick, I will swear on my dead nanna's grave that there was no cut and paste whatsoever! The Roulettes really did fly that manoeuvre and it was an incredible thing to watch.
