Good morning everyone...

I snapped this a few months ago in HK at a place called Giant Buddha which is located on Lantau Island, the largest Island in HK...

I had purchased my new Nikon D200 with an 18 - 70mm Nikkor, I was very eager to snap away... The camera was in default setting & I was soooooo overwhelmed & perplexed with its functions & settings... As my wife Christina was walking ahead & I was fiddling with my new toy, I gazed up to see Christina trying to adjust or view a previous shot on our Canon powershot S60 ( now christinas new toy ), It was an accident as most of my photos are... The day was very dark, gloomy & overcast with low lying clouds & rain... I only realized how dramatic the moment looked after opening it in my digital dark room ( PC )...

The frame took me nearly two hours dam it & realize it takes away from the main focus as it may be a little large... I can only hope my framing will improve

Yass, ... that's a very cool shot indeed! Love the way you've put it all together.

The pic looks great. The frame takes it away a little, however it also gives the pic something as well.

Thanx for the stars and comments everyone :D

Here is another I framed in a hurry tonight... It's not as time consuming as the first, I think it works well...

The Buddist Monk was comming down from the Giant Buddha, he did not flinch at the sight of me invading his space with a brick around my neck :D ...

The tourist behind the suject is unfortunate but I imagine they were thick on the ground. A blue sky would also have helped a lot but as the eternal Bhudda says, "Be thankful and enjoy what is..." (at least I think he must have said something like that :)) Nevertheless, the dignity of your inscrutable subject does hold the viewer's interest and I like your frame that doesn't overwhelm the picture. .

Leaning on the frame is great but the burnt out sky is a bit much ..have you tried PS Plug In Graduated filters for skies?
Here's a realy quick edit with sky and I did a quick bit of burning and dodging. It has spread on to the frame but that weoul dbe easy to stop with the original file

Umm and This one i cloned in the missing top of the Monks head cloned out the tourist and added some sky. I think it's worth spending more time on stuff like this.
(I had to rotate hime because of problems with file edimensions for attachements..(and its very low res and quality)

Great shots Yass! I really like the 1st one, her expression is great & she is framed perfectly, even symetrically by the buddha, it's very 3D.

I really like the composition of the 2nd as well.

I play around with the cloning tool very often Mike, though never with Plug In Graduated filters for skies... I will give them a go in the near future...

I was contemplating cloning the tourist out though I had no time to fiddle as the frames took me ages ( so many things to do with so little time to do them )...

I'm not suprised at the 3D look Vicky, Chrsitina was a good 6 - 8 meters away, up many flights of stairs with the Giant Buddha being at least 50 meters away, at a higher elevation...

Yass the pic is awesome. It has the truley great element in a photo that makes you keep looking at it. I can't quite decide where to start of finish looking.

The strongest thing I noted was the contrast, not the image technically, but that Buddha is gazing intently at a human sole and that your wife is gazing intently at a digital camera..............kinda says a lot about where we humans are today!

So many ideas, as well, that never get manifested. These photos just as they are give me great pleasure. Thankyou.
