My Gallery is presently disabled - apologies for any inconvenience

These were the very first shots the day I bought my Nikon D70s.

Galena was once a prosperous mining town.
Its elegant buildings and flambouant italianate style mansions speak of a bygone age.
Tourists flock there in their thousands.

Historic Galena is now a tourist town but a rather nice one.

Beneath an austere church Pam hams it for the cam!

Downtown Galena - window shopping became pumpkin shopping for Halloween!

Thanks for dropping by yass. Yes, the lady can sure act up!
Galena I think was the highlight of all the places she took me to. Chicago was great but in a different way.

The angularity of this appealed to me. So American looking, isn't it! -

Galena looks like the type of place ( particularly 082.jpg ) where onc'e there may have been dirt roads with horse drawn carrages & the buildings where made from wooden structures with corrugated roofing... A sort of old wild west... There seems to be that kind of a feel about it...

Great pics Mark. Galena looks like a beautiful old town, i can imagine how it would've been back in its day.
I love that "so american" look. They have some great architecture. When i was over there it made me feel as though i was on TV!....lol....weird feeling.(not one aussie accent around!) We see so much american stuff on TV it was great to see it in real life.

Thanks for commenting, yass and sue. Galena does have that "wild west" feel about it
and the some of the architecture has that, Gone with the Windlook about it.
I shot this magnificent mansion from the car window as the lead-footed Pamela sped across the Galena Bridge!
