Hi Sue,

It's a bit dark (no pun intended !!) but otherwise not too bad... What were your settings ??

I haev found for my night pics a wide apeture and aroun 8-10 secs exposure seems ok most of the time.

It's certainly no worse than a lot of mine :) Did you have the camera on a tripod ???

I did, but i think the settings were all wrong. I'm determined to get it right eventually tho cos i've seen some great ones.

nice capture. it just seems a bit soft..imho. i think to get a sharp night photo, one needs to use small aperture (something like f/8 or smaller) and long shutter speed (15s or more). using large aperture will produce soft(er) images. hope this helps.

Thanks Eyusuf and Atlas
I'll try your tips next time. I guessed at the settings... F4 and the shutter speed 3.2 secs.
ISO was 200, is that ok?

the most important thing is to play with different settings and find out which one is the most suitable for your liking. i like to use f/8, 10s, ISO 80.

Hi Sue,

The lower you can have your ISO the less chance of 'noise'. especially for night shots, from what I have read and played with.

Also, one thing it has taken me a while to get my head around is some terminology when it comes to photograpghy...

For instance 'large' apeture as eyesuf has referred to... Large as in the opening size of the apeture, not the number... A normal person would think (as I did, though I may no tbe normal !!) that F22 for instance would be a large opening, and say F8, small.

Totally the opposite in effect.... So for night shots you probably need the largest aperture (smallest F number) you can manage...

Hope this makes sense :)

thanks for clearing that up atlas. one nice short review for night photography can be seen here:
