Hi all,
2 photos that I'm happy with of many (and I mean many!) taken recently in Paris and processed to give a pseudo HDR effect. I'm quite happy with the results as they instil a certain 'mood' with the detail in the clouds. What do you all think, do they work for you? I'm still very much an novice with a lot to learn so am interested in all comments.
Thanks in advance
Paul
I loved Paris. These photos bring back so many memories.
I like the first picture the best. Love the feel and contrast of the clouds. But I’m thinking you could crop a bit more from the bottom.
I look forward to see some more.

Noooooo don't crop the bottom, you'll lose the two people along the river! I love the dark feel of that image.
I fully agree with you Mel, I didn't mean that much - a lazy post by me. I was thinking near the light patch in path, just below the people.

Beautiful, Paul. I'd really like to see some larger versions of these images (say at the very least 800px wide), particularly the second. Both evoke a feeling of moodiness appreciated by this lover of stormy weather. :)
id leave them alone. they're very nice as is.
beautiful place, paris.

Love the first picture - beautifully moody.
I find the trees and blue building a bit distracting in the 2nd so I would desaturate slightly but that's IMHO.

The 'HDR look' in travel and landscape photography comes about from the many people who have no idea how to process their images. Often using Photomatix, they crank up the contrast and saturation of which the blue channel is most over the top. I would not be trying to emulate such a look. Your work here looks nice enough to succeed with more natural processing. Of course for advertising and other genres, the comic book HDR look has its place. That said the processing here is not too distracting and the mood created quite attractive.
