Resplendent beneath a summer sky the rich Italianate architecture of
Albury Station remains as spectacular as when it opened in 1881.
It has been falsely touted as having the longest platform in Australia,
but that honor belongs to West Perth. Flinders Street platform #1 comes second, Albury third.

Travelling from Sydney to Melbourne Mark Twain had to change trains at Albury in the early hours of a winter's morning.
That was before we adopted the standard gauge. He was not impressed.

Albury is a modern town but with lots of history too.
If you like architecture as I do, then you'd find plenty there to shoot at.
Also historic Beechworth is in the same region and worth a visit, even if only to pig out at the bakery! ;)
I was there in Feb', visiting my two daughters at Wangaratta.

I am thinking I was near Albury with my family when I was 12, but I'm remembering being down at a beautiful river (The Murray obviously now) I think we were on the Victorian side because it was amazing to me that you could be in a different state just by crossing the river (or stepping into the river I think). May not seem significant to most, but being from FNQ, state borders were a 2 day drive away.
Regardless, lovely composition, really like the first two at the station. The Country Comfort reminds me of a modern version of some of the architecture in the main square in Brussels.

Thanks Lynda. Amazing that at 12yrs or so you should have felt that way about being in one State with only the Murray separating you from another, because I was about that age when I was there from Tasmania with my family, and experienced the same feeling. But see how different Albury is today! I waited for a red car to fill the cnr, but one never came :)
