Had the pleasure last November to assist at a Greek Orthodox wedding... very nerve-racking stuff, but the bride and groom were just the very best as were both their families.
Definitely not my forté, but I'm pleased with my shots that got presented to the couple.

Thanks Shaddsi. Ooooh, I'd be way too nervous to do a wedding on my own and I think to do this type of photography you really need an air of confidence about you. I don't think a lot of people realise just how much preparation goes into each photo... a subtle placement of a hand here, a minor adjustment of a tie or dress there... lots and lots of work and an artistic assistant is a definite requirement in my opinion. And then of course there's the pre-wedding preparation which is done months in advance. There's a whole timetable that is strictly adhered to and a list of who, what, where, when and how the photographs will be done.
I was very privileged being the assistant photog, I learned an awful lot and have a new-found respect for the pros. My mate Greg, who was the principle photog, did a fantastic job which was made so much easier for the both of us by his long-time girlfriend Melly. :)

Well its a start, you never know helen, you certainly have a talent for it.. Confidence is a perception not nessesarily a feeling.. (i work in the IT industry and we have to pretend to be confident about alot of things :P)

LMBO My ex never did! (He worked in It and did photog as a hobby.... hmmm pattern forming there LOL)
Helen, they are gorgeous photos, I think with experience comes confidence. If I had photos like that of my wedding I would have been thrilled!
My sister took mine, and although lovely photos, nowhere near the professional quality you have posted here.
Well done!

Thanks so much, really appreciated. :)
Yes, my brother-in-law took our wedding photos. I thought he'd be ideal with his Canon camera all those years ago and especially after he did such a great job on my other brother-in-law's wedding.
Who was I kidding?!!! The photos were nothing but happy snaps... I was sooo disappointed. :( Had I known he would do that, I would have postponed our wedding until I could have afforded a professional photographer... might have taken me five years (we were rather poor back then), but the results would have been at least what I expected.
I have had a few people ask me to do their wedding, but I have politely declined. However, if a professional wedding photographer ever asked for my help, I'd be quite happy to go along as an assistant. :)

Yes, all that prep is why I'm not a wedding photographer. I'm nopt really a people person (ciomes from (a) growing up in a rural area; and (b) having an escalalting hrearing problem from age 11 to 30, when it was down to 6% and they finally operated to fix it. I just never got good socialisation skills.
The photos are lovely, I especially like the tree one.

Totally OT here but Odille, you don't seem like you are not a people person to me!

Helen I took photo's for my sons wedding to help them save money and because they like how I took photo's,but the stress to get it right was overpowering I would set up to take a photo and someone would change it.
Never again would I take wedding photo's you have taken some beautiful photo's.

Thanks for that, truly. :)
I'm just waiting for my eldest daughter to take the plunge and ask the question. She's got the fiancé, got the house and has her first child... but there's no ringing of wedding bells just yet... and I'm not too sorry about that. :p Definitely a pro photog for her, even if I have to pay for one so I can get out of it. Of course we won't tell her that. ;)

Lovely photos Helen, and I agree with you on NOT being the photog for your daughter. You're the Mother of The Bride - you have a duty to have a great day and enjoy yourself and be the pain for the photog LOL

Practice makes perfect Helen, it's just tough to find a couple that will let you practice on there special day :( But the good thing is you've already done one! and pretty bl**dy well I might add. Back yourself, they do get easier (40+ weddings latter I can just start saying I have a rough idea whats going on ;))
But if this was your first, you'll do just fine...
