Having a half hour to spare before picking the boy up from school, my partner and I decided to go on a little photo trek.
This was one of those shots was either going to work or fail miserably. This shot was taken from the car as we were driving along the road. I just hoped that when I got home and viewed it that I would have something decent.

Interesting take on it Gaylee.
This is the type of shot that is often used to convey a feeling of solitude and as a result, there is usually a lot more of the environment included so that the tree/trees are a single small clump within a wide open frame.
So this one creates visual interest for me because the framing is unusual.
However when I look at the image me feelings are slightly confused. There is just enough environment that I feel like there should be a feeling of solitude and I find myself trying to look at the area out of the frame.
Overall then, the shot has some initial attraction for me, but in the end I'm a little unfulfilled by the confusing message. That's just my take on what it does for me, but that shouldn't detract from what you've done. Breaking away from the norm is a good thing.

If you've cropped it, loosen the crop (this is based on previous CC) or tighten it (whichever suits your tastes more - but bear in mind, photography is art so beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the artist).

It is not cropped at the moment and admittedly I didnt have much time to frame maybe as I should have as I was just the passenger in a moving car.

I like it very much! As Peter said I feel I want to know if it is all by itself. If you can go back and get it with more space around the clump of trees then I think it will be much stronger.
cropping it tighter doesn't IMHO help.

I like your original compared to the crop also. As a point perhaps a little more contrast into the sky it seems to work well with B&W's
