Here's some Street Scenes from SW China in an Old Area in Guangzhou. I like to snap these traditional scenes as I think it won't be too many years before these sort of scenes vanish with the rapid modernisation. These are all taking with my G9 , I lugged my Canon D20 with LSeries (aka the brick) around a lot without using it, the G9 is far less intimidating and more discrete but actually harder to use because of the lousy viewefinder you have to compose on the screen which is pretty tricky in bright light especialy if you dont want an eye level shot. The old G4 was far better with its swivel LCD screen which meant you could use it at waist level like a large format. The G9 does have RAW though. These shots are the jpeg's pretty much as shot apart from resizing and sharpening. Although I have added a couple of things ..spot the add ins!

Well, I definitely can't spot the addins.

Love the mood of the first image, very quiet and contemplative. The locks on the chairs are interesting. Perhaps this place is not as serine as it first appears?

The second one is great, so much to explore. At first I thought they were selling fruit, but they're actually rocks. Then I look around the corner and it's ALL rocks, rocks, rocks! They don't look much like suiseki, just colourful. Of course, it wouldn't be China without the ubiquitous plastic bag :) I also see a razor blade, something in foil and a couple of straws (no wonder they are looking at you so suspiciously! haha)

Number 3 looks ripped straight out of the pages of a travel brouchure .. very nice. Love the man's face, so much texture yet he doesn't look that old. This photo also features the same bicycle lock as the cafe .. the local bicycle lock factory must be doing a roaring trade :)

Thanks for sharing

My guess is that cute little table goes missing.

you certainly looked around the pic
I really enjoy a photo that has a lot to explore and these ones definitely did.
I spent a lot of time looking into the window of the first photo and all the posters of chairman Mao etc. That picture is so much more than a photo of a sleepy cafe, it's a glimpse into that gentleman's life.

Well, I hope you eventually tell us. No fair if you don't :)

I'm happy no one spotted the add ins as obvious..

Thanks!

Those pics were added in , I don't feel it's a mis representation because those actual images were taken at the same time around the corner on a public wall, I just moved them in to his shop :) and as you say it's still an insight into the old guy's life.

The other add in is a bit bolder, although subtle (that's a conflict) I put a 'Banksy' ( http://www.banksy.co.uk/ ) graffiti (the elephant carrying a bomb) into the image of the guy sitting on the bike, the Banksy was shot from an exhibition in HK a few days prior to the guy on the bike shot.

Comments Welcome.

These a fantastic, Mike. I never would have known about the add-ins had you not said. Certainly must be a fascinating place... one on the wish list for sure. :)
