I am planning a trip there for the 11 July 2010 Total Solar Eclipse. The southern isalnd of Mangaia enjoys 3min 35secs of totality. Much better than my last effort - 28 hours straight travel to Copley in SA for 28 seconds of totality!
As accommodation is scarce I've already booked it - and one place refused me as they were already full for the date! n I'd love to hear from anyone who's visited the isalnds, and particularly Mangaia, as I've never been to that part of the world.

Wow, you are in for a treat! The Cook Islands are beautiful. We visited Rarotonga and Aututaki. You will get some beuatiful images and the people are very friendly. Sadly I do not have digital images to post here, the photos I took were on an old film camera and are ok but did not have polaroid lens etc. The water is beautiful, will look forward to seeing your photos.

Went to Rarotonga and Aitutaki in 2005 - I have some photos posted on this forum from Aitutaki, last post dated 14-11-2006. It is a beautiful part of the world.

This is an Old thread! Hopefully Odille is subscribed to the thread and will get email notification that you have replied Alan.
I found your thread, thanks! You have motivated me to also scan some photos of the place.
