Hi All,
Still thinking about the Circles and Square theme for the competition at our camera club and came up with these. What do you think? Thanks.

I like the idea of the first one. However I think there are too many pieces involved, so it makes it a bit messy to the eye. 3 piles of chips is good but fewer scattered in front of them would, I think, be better. If the chips are colourful, I think the image would be stronger in colour!
The second, is possibly too regimented, although the idea is good. The large empty spaces in the top left and bottom right do not help. Possibly if it was on the scrabble board with a couple of the 'o's on it in the foreground could be good.
Just my opinion anyway.

I like them both, but the amount of items in the first one don't fit the composition right... if you look closely, there are more items down toward the bottom right corner and not enough in the top left. Also the bottom left - it's just not balanced enough. And Jules is right, I think the concept of the photo would be better in colour, not black and white.
I like the second photo also... 2-in-1! But what Jules has said about the space in the top and bottom corners don't really help the composition either.
Keep trying though. :)

Out of the last three you posted, I like the middle one with the scrabble pieces on the connect 4 pieces.

this gives me the idea of something like looking over the shoulder of a poker player with a good hand of cards.. the cards in focus (short DOF) and a stack of colourful chips right next to it... You could also have the same stack of connect 4 bits and work with some sharp lights to create a shadow of the pieces..

Mmmmmm - thats an idea and i think the kids have a poker set some where. Will have to get the model (my son) to pose again.

I actuaaly think if you re-shot the first b/w with the scrabble pieces more to the right so the eye travels up to the pile of chips you would have a really nice shot. Aside from the cloth being distracting in the colour shots I think they are a bit too organized,IMHO.
