Some Graffiti shots from a back alley in the Perth CBD.
C&C welcome. I've posted them in order from what I think is the best (top) to the worst (bottom).

I'm loving the first one, the contrast between the two opposite colours (green and red) makes for a great photograph. As well as that, it's composed very nicely and it's sharp and detailed.
Very interesting and cool. Keep it up!

Hi Beatnik

Very addictive genre, I've done a heap of these in and around Melbourne and elsewhere. #1 is a great shot. You need to be front and centre to get even focus and perspective throughout and an UWA lens helps. I think #s 2 and 3 suffer from distortion and out of focus effects to the LHS of the shot.

Thanks. What's a UWA lens? These were taken on a point and shoot as I don't have a DSLR yet.

Sorry for the TLA mate. UWA is ultra wide angle. Lets you get in nice and close and still get a good spread across the shot. Really handy for shooting in front of signs, parked cars, hard up against fences etc. Like on the smallest zoom setting on your point & shoot.

The fact that the door in the first shot is butted up against the left side of the frame is annoying me. It feels as if it's been abruptly cut off and feels incomplete.

Would having some wall actually "frame" the door work?

Or is it just me? ;)

Vic,

I deliberately framed the door that way but can see what you mean. Maybe just half an inch of wall between the door frame and the frame of the photo so it doesn't look like it's been cropped down.
Cos now that you mention it almost looks like the photo has been cropped.

Chico,

Thanks. I'm starting to like this style of Photography so when I get my DSLR I might get a UWA lens to go with it.

I think #s 2 and 3 suffer from distortion and out of focus effects to the LHS of the shot.

Those had to be taken with the exposure bumped up (as far as the limited exposure control on the wee p&s would allow anyway)
as they were on the opposite side of the wall as the first one which had the sun shining right on it.

I don't have a tripod yet so that's why the focus is a bit rubbish. I'm still too attached to my pics and not ruthless enough when deleting photos after a shoot
but really they shouldn't have made the cut.

Also what does TLA mean? lol.

Triple Letter Acronym?

Yeah, the image appears cramped/cropped.

A bit of wall would may have made it look a little less constricted? Don't know.

I agree with Vic re the first image - a little more space to the left would have worked... You can check this list for the abbreviations and acronymns used here - "Master List (http://www.photoforum.com.au/showthread.php?29940-Abbreviations-Acronyms-and-Photography-Terms-(Master-List))" :)

excellent series and especially the first - any special processing on that one?
