Hi guys, bit hard to differentiate between Urban and Black and White, my way of thinking is Urban means Street Photography, which is often black and white.. Anyway if i've messed this up apologies.
Shot is in Melbourne, the flare is unfortunate but i still really like it.

I really like the flare, without it i think it'd be a bit bland. I like how the light is divided into two diagonal sections.

Hi Will...you have a good idea in there somewhere. Just a couple of things...there is so much going on around the main subject, that her impact becomes less. I would suggest a lower angle of view towards the lady and let the laneway lead the viewers eye towards her. By positioning the camera lower and more to to the left, it would make the main subject a bit off center and i think would work a bit better Crop out some of the buildings, however the chinese sign and the small signs on the left hand wall could probably stay as they add atmosphere.
I like the tonal range that you have achieved...mate you are defintely on the right track...keep at it. You already are aware of the flare problem...do it myself on many an occasion.

Thanks guys, Mike I know what you mean with the converging lines, the shot was actually taken about 6 months ago when I was documenting back alleys on an excursion to Melbourne so yeah it's a busy shot, I didn't notice the girl at the time but she stood out when I recently converted it to black and white, i've got some better angles (and without the flare!) but the girl is gone or out of the light, I find any of my quarter decent photo's usually have some "by chance" feature to them which has helped draw me towards street photography where at times a lot of technique can be replaced with a photo full of life and spontaneity, though I wouldn't in any way call this full of life :) I'm working at it, cheers.

Potentially a bit more like you were describing, I think it needs a bit of lens correction from the wide angle, if you notice both buildings in the first look like they should be falling towards each other almost.

I like it as above.. the detail gives a bit of placement. I think the sliver of light just behind her is great, without it the shot may not have worked at all.
