Col, Beautiful shot. Be interested in a bit more detail i.e. What camera gear/lens & adjustments via Photoshop. I am about to have a go at I/R & know so little about it. Have the R72 which I was going to use with my 20D but not sure how to get the effects you have achieved. Regards

Very beautiful shot. The twigs at the left bother me a bit but this may have been unavoidable if you couldn't take a shot from a more right position.

Thanks Rob and kky.
Kky: I wasn't able to get any further to the right. If I did I would have been swimming.:D
Rod: I hope this will help.
I was using a Panasonic FZ-30. I used a neutral grey white balance and the exposure settings above.
Here is the original image straight from the camera:

This is my general approach to IR conversions, feel free to use any or none of this when adjusting your own shots.
Once in photoshop I simply swapped the red and blue channels around.
Image/Adjustments/Channel Mixer.
In the Red channel I set the red slider to 0% and moved the blue slider to 100%
In the Blue channel I set the blue slider to 0% and moved the red slider to 100%
Then I adjusted the Levels (IR images tend to look flat). I moved the shadow and highlight sliders to the starting points of the histogram.
Once that was done you move onto changing the Hue and Saturation.
Image/Adjustments/Hue&Saturation.
There are still some areas of the image that are red which I don't want.
Under Edit: I change to the red channel and select an area in the image that is red. (It may take some time to find the area you want, most of the red cast is in the magenta channel.)
Once I've got my area selected I adjusted the lightness to -100. Then I repeat the same thing but in the Magenta channel.
Once you have done that you will notice the the colour spectrum in the bottom of the palette has a black area.
Next step is to adjust the Master channel. You can adjust the Hue, Saturation and lightness to what ever you wish, or you can leave them alone. (All personal choice)
For me in this image I decreased the saturation to about -40 or -50 and increased the lightness about +5.
Finally, I gave it some unsharp masking
Amount - 20%
Radius - 35 pixels
Threshold - 0
I learnt most of this from the Finepixel's video tutorial. http://www.lifepixel.com/videos/basic-infrared-photoshop-info.htmlhttp://www.lifepixel.com/videos/basic-infrared-photoshop-info.html ("
I hope that helps.

Thanks Col. Had a bit of a play at lunch time & took a shot looking over the Back fence. Very quick but would appreciate any comments.

Ok firstly two questions.
1. How much sun was there?
2. What white balance did you use?
It looks quite flat.
I've found that shooting IR in low light can be problematic and can result in images like this. Also, for me, if the white balance isn't set correctly it can also look like this.
With some hue/saturation work, some adjustment of the levels and some unsharp mask, it starts to look better.

Col.
Overcast so very little sun. No adjustments to White Balance. I actually took the shot prior to seeing your post. Will have another attempt on Saturday. Once again, thankyou for the instructions. It is greatly appreciated. Look forward to posting some results
