Hi All,

I know there are other threads about the 400D, but here is another one !

After much research and being frustrated with my Olympus E300 I have decided to move to a 400D, but have decided against the kit lens.

The olympus is a great camera, the 2 kit lenses that came with it however seem to let me down, especailly in low light enviroments... I could try and get a new lens, but being based on the four thirds system there few out there and the ones that are, are expensive... I also remeber the BETA v VCR days, So I figure I go mainstream, keep the E300 as a second camera...

As was said in another thread, the lenses can cost more than the camera... I am looking at getting the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens which look to sell around $2000.... The camera body is about $1200. That lens with the addition of a 50mm prime lens I believe will serve me well for years to come...

Also, I note when searching the net that I get :

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens AND

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens

Is this a typo or are they 2 different leneses ?

Has anyone had experience with the 2 lenses above ? Any reccommendations where I might get a good deal from ??

Thanks in advance,

Graham

I can tell you that IS is for Image Stabilisation, so adds a bit of bulk, weight and $$ to the non-IS lens.

Apparantly it's good for slow hand-held shots.

Other than that, my only comment is, what about wide angle? ie: 18 to 50mm range ?? Want to buy my kit lens 18-55 ??? :)

Cheers, Graham.
