Remember all the movies you have seen about how men raced to join up to the army in WW1, how thay were all dressed well and how they lived? Well this pic was taken of my great grandfathers company at the outset of WW1. On the back it is explaned that they were to get their uniformes the very next day. And people think they are hard done by today. My grandfather is the first at the back on the left.

I think that is part of my passion with photography, the old stuff. I am lucky enough to have this complete ancient album, going back for about 3 generations. I still go through them a few times a year and have done so since I was a kid. Thanks for sharing that!

Janedoe: If you're ever asked what got you into photography, you prob just answered that Q right there! :)
For me it's also the impetus.Things changes sooo quickly that I felt no one was taking the pics I wanted to see.
Plus I wanna be one of those boring old men that wanna show ppl my old pics!!!
Love to see some of yr restorations of the pics too.

Hi Matte! I should scan some to be honest - some are soooooo old and there are some goodies as well.

I like to capture the 'mood' these days and the moment, because they do pass so quickly :)

Things like this are wonderfull family heirlooms.
I use to restore things like this back in high school days, after school.
But Im sure the restoring process would be totaly different these days.

This reminds meof a website I found last year - it was a guy who developed old films that he picked up at garage sales or from old cameras off ebay... just random people's albums - it was great but I cant find the link argh!. New laptop rage...

Edit : Yay I found it : this is a very worthwhile 10 minute diversion http://westfordcomp.com/updated/found.htm
