Covered a friends wedding yesterday with the 5DMKII to attempt a fusion of photography and video. Some of the video footage looks pretty awesome, but a little way of with the editing for that, managed to process a few photos, am pretty happy with the results. Am aiming for a photojournalism sort of style, Would love to hear your thoughts!

I like the idea of the photojournalism style, everyone is so relaxed and happy.

I go with the natural, shoot it from the hip style that tells it how it was.

Hey Salina, I think the best result come from that style, but I think it would be difficult to stay true to this form for the whole shoot given bride expectations and "tradition", I have no idea really as I don't do 1st shooter gigs, don't know if I would be up for the task. Hats off to those that do!

I think you might have something there, I can't see any couple not wanting both.

These are really nice photos. Beautiful DOF. I especially like how you framed the second picture. The third picture is the best of the bunch IMHO.

Thanks Benj

#3 is probably my favourite as well.

Some of the shots would have benfited from a tiny bit of flash to get a bit more of a catch light in the eyes, but otherwise pretty good.
How do you find the video (and lack of full manual control) on the 5d2 ?

I normally shoot xha1, so getting used to lack of control is a bit of a shift for me. Although I would have to say that shooting indoors 5dmkii blows away the xha1. Just need to pick up a couple of nd filters for shooting outdoors, otherwise you lose too much aperture which kinda defeats the purpose. Would be really nice to control shutter speed also but it was never designed as a video camera that took stills. I love it for its stills capabilities and as a specialist video camera (indoors) it works into our packages nicely.

Excellent photos. The colours of the 5D MII are so nice, so is the DOF. Can I ask what lens you were using?

Hi Jackie

That would be the 135L f2 - it's a beautiful portrait lens.

Apparently once recording you can fool it a bit to get a setting you want then lock it in, but the damn thing resets itself everytime you hit record so I imagine it would be a bit of a pain... It's a pretty cheap camera though when your consider the price of the alternatives.

That was the main reason I went this path, the other alternative was a 35mm adapter for the xha1, about the same price as the body for 5dmkii, and both still need camera lenses to operate, so for me I like to get bang for buck, I'm loving the 5d.
