hello,

my cousin asked me to photograph her wedding for her, i have a sony a200 and i was wondering if a Canon 580exii Speedlite would work on my camera and also would it make the images better if i had one? Her wedding will be on a beach with the bridesmaids dresses and aqua color do you think the flash will make the images better?

thankss

No, a Canon flash won't work on your Sony. You'd need at a minimum the Sony GN42 which is around the $500 mark.

As for flash improving the beach shots... yes a flash could improve the photos, but only if used correctly, which isn't a case of clip-on and shoot.

It may work depending on where the terminals are and what voltage the camera emits. In general you will need to insulate the flash from all terminals except the centre one. This activates the flash, the rest are for ETTL settings and adjustments. So you will have to manually control how much power etc...

In a nutshell it should work but be prepared to modify. Best bet buy the Sony option. Does this mean you have a 580EX for sale ?

You may want to try this resource, it is very good.

If this is your first wedding (which it sounds like it is) you should do a hell of a lot of research and then be prepared for one of the most intense jobs of your life, I have just completed my second wedding and it was VERY full on, So much to take into account.

I've now decided I want to second shoot/assist for a while before tackling another.

I don't think Sony likes to use anything from another brand :(
