Last night I saw probably my favourite band of all time on their final farewell tour. Camped out front row centre on the barrier for about 4 hours and had an absolute blast, here are a few photos that I took. All are at f1.4 - 1.8 at 800 iso (pretty happy with the fairly minimal noise, especially shooting with a D80)

(Apologies to dial-up users)

Very nice. I agree that the 800 ISO came out well. These are not easy shots to take, with action in low light. You caught some wonderful expressions, colours and poses. I feel I can pick the singer's projected (if not real) personality.

Second from top not quite sharp on the face? I would like to see more "zap" for the BnW shot, either by filtering before BnW ,or using a local contrast after BnW. Otherwise they look good to me.

EDIT: Did you get any wider shots that may show the atmosphere?

Yeah all of these shots were straight out of the camera, so might go back a bit later and do some PP. Nah I didnt get any long shots unfortunately, I spent 4 hours squashed up against the barricade with my D80 and 50mm (no press pass) to see them so there was no way I was going to be moving back to get wide shots lol

What great photos. Absolutely awesome! I love live music gigs.
Can I ask what settings you used...aperture, shutter speed, ISO etc.
Im a novice myself and would like to start photographing local bands...

I was shooting at ISO 800, aperture mainly around 1.4 to 1.8, shutter speed around 1/800 to 1/1000.

I was shooting on manual and waiting until the spotlight was on the subject (hard to catch, but much better results)

The D80 isnt exactly known for high ISO performance but I was pretty happy with the results :)
