took wedding pics for a friend. the groomsmen had the most awesome suits that looked like they were from the days of gangsters so i just had to turn some of them sepia.

I meant to comment on these earlier - I agree that the sepia works well with the first 3 shots. I prefer the 2nd and 3rd one. With the 3rd shot I would crop the foreground slightly to remove the lighter area, I find this a bit of a distraction and doesn't really add to the shot - cropping it out would mean the first light thing you see is the bride's dress.

nice shots. 4-6 look like the whites are blown out though...

That third shot is something special - love it!
I am shooting a wedding next weekend.... what's your biggest tip for me? :D
(Other than don't do it, which I hear people say to newbies a lot!)

hey littlealbert
i'm not one that would say don't do it. i've read with interest all the people who say never do weddings for friends......95% of my weddings are friends....it's the only way i do them as knowing them you get a feel for them and you are more inclined to give them the kind of pics that they will enjoy. every wedding i have done has had it's own quircky pics that are specific to the people involved. my most important tips are as follows:
#1 - sit down with bride and groom and find out exactly what photos they 1005 definitely can't do without and list them down so you don't forget on the day. also find out if they have anywhere in mind for the bridal photos. i.e. park or building etc
#2 - make sure you know in advance if there are going to be any difficult moments i.e. brides parents are divorced and can't stand to be within 3 metres of each other. :D
#3 - scout out the venue at about the time of the day that you will be expected to take the photos so you have an idea of the kind of lighting situations you are likely to be facing.
#4 - i try to organise with the bride and groom (prior to the wedding) someone from each family to help round up those people required for family pics after ceremony. this ensures that no one is missed out and you can get these pics over and done with quicker.
#5 - you will always find that there is someone among the crowd that wants to but in and take snaps while you are trying to get the important ones done. so always remain polite and ask the person or persons if they could just wait till you have the official pics and then they can have a go. the snappers tend to behave a little better then if they know they aren't going to miss out.
#6 - lastly relax and have fun with the bridal party when you get them on their own and you will get some really nice relaxed pics.
good luck

another thing littlealbert
make sure you have plenty of batteries for your flash and that the ones for your camera are fully charged and also make sure you have some water handy as it's thirsty work. i have a little esky in the car and between ceremony and bridal pics rehydrate.

Ooops I missed them! Got 'em - that makes nine :D
Thankyou - I'm off to scout out the photo location this week but it didn't even occur to me to go at around the same time of day the ceremony/photos will be - der!
And yes - difficulties in the family, that's an important one to find out as I suspect there may be a few issues there!
Thankyou :D
