It's a bit early in the year, but I would be interested hear about any photography seminars or workshop in Perth or there abouts in the first quarter or maybe first half of the year. It’s a long story. Even picture framing would be OK

Reply here, or send a PM. Thanks

Cheers

TAFE are about to run a Digital SLR course starting the 11th of February, the number to call is 1300 134 881. The one I'm attending is at the Joondalup campus. 1900 hrs to 21.30hrs

Thanks for the reply; I'm after the professional w/shop seminars and preferable one that is not on in the eastern states.

hi Ian
i have done a couple of workshop thru uwa checkout there website good selection
http://www.extension.uwa.edu.au/ then go to left hand side of menu and pick extension tab (new window comes up) then photography bottom right.
they are good light course the people running them are pros and run there own private classes as well just watch out . i ended up doing courses that i thought were going to be a little advanced and ended up spending 80% of the time with a class asking that were asking how to save photos and had no concept at all so it cost me big dollar just confirm first what level. pm if you want more

Yeah the UWA run a pretty good Extension class for Advanced SLR something something... but I think it does focus a bit on how to store images etc... boring.

But the Joondalup TAFE one is really good, I think most people would get a lot more out of that kind of thing with ongoing intense instruction rather than having Driving Ms Daisy next to you asking the workshop seminar lecturer why she can't get good photos of Fluffy at midnight with no flash.

yep that \was my experience what a load rubbish when i pointed this out to the teacher he agreed but then said 80% of the claSS where asking the similar questions so majority rules happens alot apparently, people dont want to start with the basic and move up money factor they think take 1 class learn it all at 1 stop get 3 lessons/classes all the info 1 price , which doesnt happen they still get the basic tuition

Pick up on this from another thread; will look into travel/accom this week.

Thanks your help, it's a long story to why I need to go 3/4 of the way across Aust for a photography workshop. Sorry; this is not the place to share the reason.

Thanks again

Of the two Adult Education TAFE courses I have completed the first intermediate course run by an excellent instructor with a lot of experience. The pre-requisites asked for good computer skills, a Manual capable camera and experience with editing. Out of the group of about 20 only 4 people had enough skill for the pre-requ, the guy next to me could not run a PC at all and many of the students had new P&S's and had no idea how to use them which resulted in long discussions about the most basic settings.

I did the AE Advanced DSLR at Joondalup in '07 and it was terrible. The instructor was a Photoshop instructor (and wasn't even good at that!). His camera was a Fuji S5600 and didn't show a single image of his own throughout the 8 weeks. The course was tedious but amusing as I watched him struggle through the most mediocre questions.

I am quite disappointed in TAFE's charter of not running a course if there is not enough students but running it if there is a poorly skilled instructor.

I hope the Joondalup course is much better for anyone else that does it.

Photography Workshop Sat April 4,2009...

Hmm don't think I've seen less info about a workshop listed on your website before. A bit of a 'less is more' approach?

Anyone know when UWA is holding another seminar?

Sorry to drag this old Thread up but I have news regarding TAFE I thought you may be interested in. Yesterday I rang up to enquire about the Adobe Photoshop course for beginners and advanced users only to find that the price for 6 week courses has damn near doubled (from $260 and now $488.85) and to add insult to injury there are no longer concessions for Pensioners or War Service Pensioners.

I rang The Department of Veteran's Affairs to find out why concessions are no longer given and they stated that as TAFE was still controlled by the Government concessions should still apply. On that note I sent an email to my local member of parliament who being Ex Military is very community minded and will wait for a reply. In my opinion TAFE are pricing pensioners out of being able to further their education which I feel is totally wrong.
